Oh, let the nations be glad and sing for joy! For You shall judge the people righteously,
And govern the nations on earth. Selah (Ps 67:4).
God has given FBM the privilege to minister in some unique nations and ministry environments around the world. Beginning this month, I would like to highlight one field in which FBM ministers. We will continue to highlight each of the fields over the next months.
A country of over 9 million people, Benin’s official language is French but uses the trade languages of Fon in the south and Dendi in the north of the country. Most peoples are still considered unreached – only a handful of smaller peoples have a Christian (Catholic) majority. Benin has Africa’s highest percentage of followers of traditional religions and is most likely to be the least evangelized non-Muslim country in Africa.
Most Muslims reside in the less evangelized far northern part of the country. They include the Dendi, Zerma, Hausa, Foodo and Kotokoli. Only the Zarma and Hausa have the whole Bible, and neither is more than 1% evangelical. (Operation World)
FBM’s ministry is focused in the far north of Benin in the towns of Guene and Malanville. Pray as Dan and Marsha Haynes seek a place of ministry close to the Niger river in the north. FBM’s ministries in Benin include leadership and pastoral training, theological education, women’s ministries, medical based outreach, local church pastoral support and extensive Bible translation.
Those presently ministering in Benin are Ken and Sarah Beckley, Cindy Faile, Dan and Marsha Haynes, and Colin and Teena Ovenell. Joe and Amy Marshall are in the process of raising funds to join the ministry team soon. Pray that the gospel of Jesus Christ will change lives through the ministry of the FBM missionaries as well as the national pastors and leaders.
